Since the education system constantly demands the presence and use of textbooks, it is safe to say that the book business will not go out of date anytime soon. Although technology allows the average student access to the latest edition of scientific texts, mathematical journals, medical books, artsy materials and many more, nothing beats the feel of actually turning a page between the fingers. No flicking of finger across a screen can come close.

Used textbooks therefore do not need to make a comeback as they never went away. Even though if significant investment has been made to put one’s child or ward through the schooling years, proper care of said books can prove to counterbalance the initial outlay. Since the chances of a student spilling every sort of drink and ink on his new book is in direct proportion to its cost, it is therefore advisable to provide some sort of protective covering to maintain its mint condition. This then ensures a command of higher value in the event the book is put through a commercial transaction in the future. In other words, no one wants to buy a book that has gone through a spin cycle.

An excellent method to source used textbooks with significant savings is to purchase in bulk. If students were to individually buy their books, the sellers obviously charge as single unit purchases. However, by pooling resources and buying as a class or perhaps a school, all will then be able to enjoy some savings in terms of discounts. Books can then be passed on to the next batch of students. The same can also be done by selling in bulk for better prices.

This practice is also ideal to inculcate in the younger generation as the recycling book business also helps to address the issue of deforestation. Although one book is just a drop in the ocean, many put together can help save some trees. This mental preparation can then be extended to other forms of natural assets which deserve better treatment and respect from mankind.
