Often prevalent within the older generation of the male population, this common problem supposedly causes some form of obstruction at the lower urinary tract. This, in turn, causes the bladder to fill up and not be able to be efficiently emptied as and when needed. Being no respecter of man, prostatism symptoms strike whoever and whenever at will. One is often beset with the filling sensation, causing a rush for the nearest facility to avoid any embarrassing leakage of liquids. Sufferers may end up planning a strict regiment of answering the call of nature before it is announced. Visits to the toilet are literally fast and furious as individuals are compelled to urinate more frequently despite having gone in the last fifteen minutes. Urgency is also a factor as one may be forced to elbow another out of the way for the public urinal or kick a cubicle door down.

Other signs of lower urinary tract obstruction, as this ailment is also commonly known as, include a painful sensation during the urinating process. Possibly due to the supposed blockage, a smaller passage to allow urine to pass through is bound to cause sensitivity to the affected area. Visits to the toilet during the night are also commonly experienced as earlier mentioned symptoms stated a rise in urinating frequency. As such, one’s sleep is constantly interrupted by the need to get up and empty the bladder. It is therefore not a wonder that many come down with other sorts of ailments such as exhaustion, depression and whatever else caused by serious lack of sleep and rest.

In addition to having to put up with a serious change to one’s lifestyle due to the presence of prostatism symptoms, the individual is seldom able to fully empty his bladder. The stream of urine is normally hesitant, often starting and stopping intermittently as though undecided on whether to let it all out or hold some back for later. Dribbling is also commonly encountered as a strong jet is certainly a thing of the past. In more serious cases, incontinence becomes a reality due to chronic retention and inability of the bladder to empty itself. Sufferers may need to don appropriate wear such as adult diapers to stem any unwanted leaks. Amidst these less than favorable signs of lower urinary tract obstruction, most adult males of the older generation are able to cope with them as part of the aging process.
